Climate Action

Kenya's communities bear the brunt of climate change — from prolonged droughts in the drylands to flooding along Lake Victoria. DESHAFO's Climate Action program mobilizes youth and community members to become environmental stewards, addressing local climate challenges through practical, community-led initiatives that protect both people and ecosystems.

  • Tree planting & reforestationIndigenous tree planting drives across Homabay County, focusing on watershed protection along Lake Victoria and school greening programs.
  • Climate education in schoolsIntegrating climate literacy into CBC lessons, training student environmental clubs, and conducting climate awareness workshops in partnership with Kenya Metrological Department.
  • Sustainable agriculture & food securityTeaching climate-smart farming techniques, organic kitchen gardening, drought-resistant crop cultivation, and water conservation methods for smallholder farmers.
  • Lake Victoria conservationShoreline cleanups, protection of fish breeding grounds, and community campaigns against water pollution threatening the lake's ecosystem.
  • Youth-led climate campaignsTraining young climate ambassadors to lead advocacy on climate justice, plastic waste reduction, and renewable energy adoption in local communities.
  • Integration into GRETECHI ConferenceAnnual climate action workshops and environmental stewardship sessions reaching 300+ youth each August.
  • Collaboration with Kenya Forest Service & NEMAPartnering with government agencies to align with national climate goals and afforestation targets.

Teen Mother Counselling & Reintegration

We believe no young woman's future should be defined by adversity. This program provides comprehensive support to teen mothers — helping them heal, grow, and return to school with confidence and community backing.

The GRETECHI Conference

Held every August since 2015 in collaboration with MOSA Church, Homabay, the GRETECHI Conference is our annual flagship event — a gathering that brings together hundreds of children and teens for a transformative experience.
